Payroll and Benefits Specialist

 

Westridge HR, on behalf of our Halton Client, is currently looking for an experienced Payroll and Benefits Specialist.  Reporting directly to the Director, Finance, you will be responsible for the accurate administration and processing of the bi-weekly company payrolls while ensuring compliance with legislation and corporate payroll policies.

 

Responsibilities

  • Process, administer and input information for all aspects of the payroll cycles
  • Ensure that payroll data is accurate and maintained in accordance with processes and procedures in the Payroll system
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and any correcting journal entries identified through the reconciliation process
  • Track and reconcile vacation & sick time
  • Administer group benefits programs including new enrolments, coverage or salary modifications, terminations, and claims-related problem resolution
  • Prepare all government remittances
  • Reconcile the payroll monthly
  • Prepare and distribute year-end and T4’s and reconcile T4 summaries
  • Produce various year end reports: WSIB, EHT
  • Respond to employee queries regarding their pay
  • Produce Records of Employment and respond to inquiries from the employee or government agencies
  • Preparing journal entries, forms, records of employment, income tax forms, and remittances
  • Effectively and positively deal with queries from Managers and Employees in relation to payroll matters
  • Accepting and processing pre-authorized staff expense forms
  • Issuing ad hoc monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Maintaining detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in Business Administration with a minimum of one 1-3 years work experience plus a minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar role
  • Completion or working toward CPA designation
  • Experience working on Ceridian Power Pay of Dayforce would be a preference
  • Financial Systems (Quickbooks)
  • Proficient understanding and use of all MS Office & Google Products with advanced skills in Word, Google Docs, Excel and Google Sheets
  • Ability to adhere to confidentiality when working with sensitive information
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Highly organized in prioritizing work, multi-tasking, and consistently meeting deadlines
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment
  • Fluency in both French and English would be an asset
